A request to TV execs...

...Stop canceling decent television shows so that you can put on some crap reality show that no one really wants to see.

Seriously. Stop.

Today I'm pointing my finger at NBC.

First you put Studio 60 on "hiatus". A hiatus that it may never come back from. You hyped up the show, got myself and others interested, then pulled it out from under my eyes. The problem with the ratings could be that you put it on after Heroes and were hoping for some carry-over. Sadly, the shows are so dissimilar that there was no way that you were going to retain nearly enough viewers. One's targeted toward the Spider-man set and the other toward people that enjoyed the West Wing. There is some cross-over(example: me), but what were they thinking?

The only good thing that came from the hiatus was The Black Donnellys. The show was gritty, violent, and turning into the new Sopranos for me. Guess what? It's been pulled too. Maybe it was too bloody for network tv? If that's the case, then why even purchase the show in the first place? Hopefully this show can get picked up by another network? The aforementioned "Sopranos" is ending in a couple of months. This could be a good filler for HBO. Obvious wishful thinking. It'll never happen. Too bad, I wanted to see more Jenny Reilly and I don't like watching Dashboard Confessional videos.

Do you know what they're replacing two quality shows with? The Real Wedding Crashers! It's a show based on the hit movie, except not. In this wonderful show the bride and the groom team up to pull one over on their wedding guests. The family gets punk'd. Hilarity ensues. Good stuff.

Die NBC, Die!(which is german for "The NBC, the!")

Add on: CBS might be thinking of canceling How I Met Your Mother. Supposedly some higher ups at "the eye" don't find the humor in HIMYM. I don't see how that could be possible(see: Robin Sparkles). I've just recently found this show, and love it. One of the best comedies on tv. It's legendary.

Lost: Hidden Message

In the case that you haven't watched last week's Lost backwards yet(loser), please check out this clip from the "Clockwork Orange" scene.

Possibly a big overall plot clue. Or not. Either way, it's creepy listening to backwards speech.

Lost: It's Back!

I know that I post a lot about Lost, but I don't care. I love this show.

Just remember that it's now on at 10e/9c. They moved it an hour to avoid American Idol, which is probably smart for ABC, but it means that I have to record it, as I'll be at work.

Episode Preview from ABC.com:

Not in Portland
Wednesday, February 7 at 10/9c

LOST is back and all new for 16 straight weeks! In the return episode, Jack is in command as the fate of Ben's life literally rests in his hands.

There's also a new video podcast here.

When I started that little countdown on the sidebar, it felt like today was forever away. Mostly because it was. We've gone through Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and even Groundhog Day. Three whole months. On the bright side, that's over and we get 16 straight weeks of mystery and maybe a couple of answers. I'm counting on more mystery than answers.

Maybe we'll find out who the eye-patched man is? Will Ben live? What are Juliet's intentions? Will Sawyer and Kate get off of the mini-island? What's up with Desmond's precognitions? Will Locke lead an army to save the captured survivors? Is there any chance that they'll kill off the two new lostaways that were introduced right before the break? How many more of these can I type out? Too many.

Spoiler(kind of) Highlight to read.:

I'm pretty sure that tonight's flashback is Juliet's. It'll be interesting to see how long she's been on the island, and maybe how she got there.

Enjoy the show. I will.

Lost: New Theme Song

Click the white space below if you do not see the video.

Personally, I'm happy with the current one. I'm glad that this show came out in the 2000s and not the 1980s, when this type of theme song was common place. Can you imagine seeing Kate, Jack, and crew in neon shirts and stonewashed pants?

Only 4 more days!

Bring Back The Bud Bowl!

With the Super Bowl just a couple of weeks away, I got to thinking about something that's been missing from the NFL championship game....

The Bud Bowl!

I'm sure that everyone remembers the greatest series of commercials to ever air during the Super Bowl, right? No, spell-check. I did not mean "superb owl". Frankly, I don't think owls get past "they're alright". Superb is pushing it. Please don't push your owl views on me. I'm not here for a heated political discussion. Thank you.

There hasn't been an actual Bud Bowl in 10 years. I'm not sure if this is some kind of oversight on the part of "The King of Beers", or if some 'crybaby protect the children from dangerous things even if those things bring joy to other people's lives parents group' decided that advertising with animated beer made their precious younglings want to drown the sorrow of having to live with them by chugging a golden brew. Either way, we need the Bud Bowl back.

Here's a link to all of Bud Bowl III, thanks to retrojunk.com. ***SPOILER ALERT*** This is the only Bud Bowl that Bud Light won.***END SPOILER ALERT***

When I was a in elementary school, we would actually bet on the out come of the Bud Bowl. Well, I remember doing that once. I picked correctly, and won something that I can't remember. Possibly a deadly snap bracelet. Until they build a time machine, I'll never know.

So, Budweiser, please bring back the king of all ad runs in the history of the Super Bowl. In these uncertain times, we need the joy that the Bud Bowl brings to all.

42 Days Until Lost Returns

Well, at least according to my countdown. I can't vouch for its accuracy, though. There's a rumor going around that the "Alphabet Network" may bring 'Lost' back early.

I had a good Christmas. Got an 80 gig iPod that I've just gotten back from returning, sans receipt.

This money will be going toward my Nintendo Wii, whenever they might become available(without having to wait in the cold for three days).

I also picked up three movies: Little Miss Sunshine, The Descent (Unrated Widescreen Edition), and Jackass - Number Two (Unrated Widescreen Edition).

Thw first two are supposed to be really good movies. Jackass: Number Two is probably not. I've heard that it's not nearly as good as the first, Oscar-winning, life-changing movie. I'll just have to settle for the fun that is other people hurting themselves. I can live with that.

Lost: IGN Lists 50 Loose Ends

IGN.com has put up a list of the "Top 50 Lost Loose Ends". It's a good article, but also really frustrating. It made me realize just how many little plot-lines need to be tied up still and makes me wonder how many of them will actually get answered before the end of the series.

I know that this is two posts dealing with Lost in the past week, but I'm really hurting for some Lost. I think that I might put up a countdown clock and just stare at it in my free time.

At least I have Heroes to keep me company for one more episode. Then it goes on vacation, too, until the new year. Damn you TV. You provide me with a drug, then force me into withdrawals. I'll always come back to you, though.

Quick Tip: Lost Article

Just a quick post to alert the Lost fans out there that there is an article in the Dec. 1st issue of Entertainment Weekly(Gwen Stefani on the cover). The article features Executive producers Carlton Cuse, Damon Lindelof, and J.J. Abram. Also included is a huge Lost fan, writer Stephen King. It's a pretty interesting article. So, check it out to help ease the drought of Lost until February.

Bonus: It's the "Inspirations Issue". You get to learn about all of the actors, writers, musicians, directors that have influenced your favorite celebrities. YAY! Or not.

Heroes

Just a quick post before my Tylenol PM kicks in.

Anyone else watching Heroes? I've just finally got around to watching all of the episodes in this past week. They were saved on my DVR, but I was never in the mood to watch an hour long show that wasn't Lost. Also, I didn't think that I was going to like it. That was stupid of me, because this show is kind of like ABC's island drama(lots of mystery to the "heroes" origins). The best way that I can discribe it is that it's kind of Lost and The 4400's love-child.

It's now highly recommended by me. Seems like a really good story, and it's beautifully shot.

If you haven't watched this show yet, give it a try. You can find the episodes for sale on iTunes for $1.99(some other number in some other currency in some other country). Obviously, you can also find them on your local torrent site for FREE FREE FREE! But that's illegal, so I can't endorse that route.

This show better not flop for the rest of the season, or I'm going to lose all of my nonexistent credibility.

Trailer:

Off-topic:

Enjoy my super awesome "halloween theme". Those are some spooky ghost surrounding my site. I put a lot of effort into putting those there(from borrowing the graphic to inserting it into my website with my super awesome HTML skills). No need for thanks, it's implied. God, I'm creative.

Doctor in the House?

Time to pitch a new TV show as a mid-season replacement.

Ok, picture this...

Good looking doctor in his late 20s lands a position in a big city ER. Very charismatic and loved by all of his co-workers. We can follow his whirlwind of relationships with multiple nurses and doctors. You know, your typical doctor show stuff.

Except he has a secret. He has a lust for more than just the hot new nurse. He has a lust for blood. He's Vampire Doctor MD!

It's a struggle everyday for him to keep his sharp-and-pointies from sinking into each and every one of his patients. Should he try to save that little boy's life, even if there's almost no chance that he'll live(freak roller blading accident mixed with a bit of train)? Or should he try to preserve his own life so that he can live another day to work his doctor magic on people that only he can cure? What a dilemma!

There will be a few people that suspect him. They will work each week to figure out all there is about our lovable, bloodsucking doc and bring him to his end. But Dr. Vampire can defend himself. Mix in a little bit of 'Blade'-type moves and gadgets. I'm sure that he'll have someone working with him, behind the scenes, to keep his blood-lust at a minimum.

Professionally done conceptual art of Dr. Vampire MD:

So, we have sex, action, horror, and drama. It's everything that tv needs today.

This whole idea could even go in a whole different direction. How about a hospital just for mythical-type beings? Staff it with vampires, mummies, werewolves, etc. I'm picturing a scene where one of the doctors runs out of gauze and grabs a chunk of cloth off of the mummy nurse. That's good stuff, right there.

If any big time tv studios want to flesh this out a bit more with me, drop me an email.

I'm going to be famous!

Suggestion: Studio 60

A show about the behind the scenes workings of a 'Saturday Night Live' type show. It stars Matthew Perry(Chandler from 'Friends'), Bradley Whitford(that guy from 'The West Wing'), Amanda Peet(from the classic movie 'Whipped'), and a whole slew of others.

If you enjoyed "Sports Night" and/or "The West Wing", you'll most likely appreciate "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip". After all, they were all created by the great Aaron Sorkin.

It has the same great dialogue as both of those shows. The writing and the acting are both at the top of anything on TV today(except 'Flavor of Love'). I really got hooked after the first episode, but wanted to give it till the third before declaring how great it is. There was no slip-off.

So, if you're not watching this show yet, jump on in. It's only three episodes into the season, and I think that it would be easy enough to get on board now. You may not get all of the backstories, but I'm sure that you'll pick up on most of the key points of the characters. Maybe you can find it on iTunes, or one of those illegal file-swapping thingamajigs(use thingamajigs at your own risk)?

It airs Monday nights at 10e/9c on NBC.

Here's a trailer for the show(I'd post a clip, but NBC has been taking them down left and right):

Lost Season Three

The third season of "Lost" premieres tonight at 9pm(eastern) on ABC. If you're a fan, you already know about this and have cleared out your schedule. If you are not a fan, then your life is probably empty.

Episode Description from abc.com:

"A Tale of Two Cities"
SEASON PREMIERE
In the season premiere episode, Jack, Kate and Sawyer begin to discover what they are up against as prisoners of "The Others."

Here's the first video 'podcast' for this season, from producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. Their podcasts are always informative, witty, and Lost related(which is all that I need). There may be spoilerish material in this video, but nothing too terrible. These guys wouldn't want to give away anything big, as they are quite secretive about plot lines in their show.

Only 14 hours to go!

Lost: Season 2

Lost: Season 2 is out on DVD today.

If you have never watched Lost, you really should. It's a well written drama/sci-fi/mystery series of hour long episodes. Each episode usually gives you a little more of the big picture as to why they are on the island. Episodes also focus on a single character's backstory, leading up to them becoming stranded. I can't recommend a show anymore than I can recommend Lost.

I didn't watch the show when it first aired in 2004, but I picked up the DVDs and was surprise by how much the story pulled me in. I actually sat there and watched about 12 straight episodes. I probably would have watched all of them if I didn't need to sleep/bathe/work.

A lot of people watch the show almost frame by frame trying to pick out little clues that may be lying around. They also like to find cross-overs in characters' backstories. It's interesting all of the little details that are slipped in by the writers and producers. If it weren't for the online Lost community, I would have missed just about every single one of these. A couple of really good Lost discussion groups are Lost-Forum.com and The Fuselage(the creative team and even some of the actors visit The Fuselage from time to time to chat with the fans).

Even during the off-season, you are still able to pick up a bit more of the story by following "The Lost Experience". It's an ARG(alternative reality game), which seems to be wrapping up. Right now players of this ARG are finding codes that give them fragments of videos which, when all are released, will be pieced together to give us all more of the Lost story. You can catch up with these here and here. It's not necessary to follow this game to follow the show, but it is an added bonus for fans.

Pick up the DVDs and catch up with the story before the Oct 4th season 3 premeire.

24 Hour Non-news Channel

Today, while watching The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, I thought about how much time I would waste of my life just watching a 24 hour(a la CNN) comedy news network(also CNN).

I already like to keep up on the latest news, but how much more captivating would it be to get a bit of humor attached to it?

I always hear about how mis/uninformed the American public is in the area of politics. Maybe all they need is a spoonful of sugar(humor) to help the medicine(news) go down. [I don't know why I used the parentheses there to let you know what I was referring to. I think that it was pretty obvious. Sorry for underestimating your intelligence.]{Sorry for those too.}

Once you get a more educated public, you may also get a higher voter turnout. This could potentially nullify the extremes of our two party system from being the ones in power. I do believe that, when it comes down to it, our nation is a majority of moderates. Sure there are issues that people will swing to the right or left, but on most, we see eye to eye.

So, someone get on this straight away. Just don't forget to mail me my royalty checks. This way I can accumulate wealth, gain power, and rule the world. What a nice little plan.

Just some YouTube to round this out...

Don't block my tubes.
